Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kasese – Gateway to the Rwenzori Mountains
Your Rwenzori Mountains hiking adventure begins with a scenic drive from Kampala to Kasese. Our professional guide will pick you up and take you through Uganda’s beautiful countryside, with stunning views of tea plantations, rolling hills, and the majestic Rwenzori Mountains. Enjoy a memorable stop at the Equator crossing for photos before proceeding to Mbarara for lunch. Continue to Kasese, register with the Rwenzori Mountaineering Service (RMS), and prepare for your upcoming mountain trek. Overnight in Kasese.

Day 2: Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba Hut (2,652m) – Start of Rwenzori Trek
After breakfast, transfer to the Rwenzori Mountaineering Service (RMS) headquarters in Nyakalengija for briefing, equipment check, and meeting your experienced guides and porters. Begin your exciting Rwenzori Mountains hike through lush forests, crossing the Mubuku and Mahoma Rivers while enjoying breathtaking mountain scenery and wildlife encounters. After a challenging 5–7 hour trek, arrive at Nyabitaba Hut (2,652m) for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Nyabitaba Hut to John Matte Hut (3,414m) – Rwenzori Mountain Trek
Day 4: John Matte Hut – Bujuku Hut (3972m)
It takes between three and five hours to travel to the Bujuku Hut after waking up and eating breakfast. Cross the River Bujuku after leaving the John Matte Hut to get to Lake Bujuku. The trial will be followed till you get at the Bujuku Hut. The Bujuku hut will be where you spend the night.
Day 5: Bujuku Hut – Elena Hut (4430m)
After leaving the Bujuku Hut, you will ascend through the surrounding area of Mount Baker and Stanley’s thick vegetation. Go around to the Elena Hut at last. At the Elena Hut, you will spend the night.
Day 6: Climb to Mount Stanley
You will ascend to the Elena glacier on day 6 before continuing to the Stanley Plateau. Crampons are required moving forward to make climbing easier. You will climb the Margherita glacier up to the Summit from the Stanley Plateau. When you’ve reached the top, descend to the Elena Hut before passing the Kitandara Lake and arriving at the Kitandara Hut. Continue climbing Mount Baker or Mount Luigi di Savoia before descending to Kitandara Hut. Your overnight stay will be at the Kitandara hut.Day 7: Kitandara Hut – Guy Yeoman Hut (3261m)
The hike for today will take six hours to complete. The Mountain Stanley and Baker glaciers are reached after leaving Lake Kitandara. You will go through some muddy pathways until you reach several rock shelters, which mark the beginning of the Kabamba valley. After that, a slope will lead you to Guy Yeoman Hut. Beautiful landscapes and a fantastic topography, including mountains, rivers, and a lot of greenery, surround this place.
Day 8: Guy Yeoman Hut – Nyabitaba Hut
After waking up for breakfast, start ascending the hillsides that surround the River Mobuku. Re-enter the old route by the Bujuku River by taking the trail that passes through the Kichuchu rocks.
Day 9: Nyabitaba Hut – Nyakalengija for Departure
Get up, eat breakfast, and get ready for the final 2-hour descent. You will be able to see various primates, different bird species, and a few mammals as you get closer to Nyakalengija. The Adventure in the wild Safaris tour guide will drive you back to Kampala once you descend and rest. Along the way, you’ll make a lunch stop in Mbarara town. Most likely, you will arrive in Kampala in the evening and spend the night there or be taken to Entebbe Airport.
